Our calendar shows all upcoming walks, social events and meetings.

Almost all Trust programs are free of charge; however, we welcome your donation so we can continue bringing you great outdoor and conservation activities and events.

    8:00 am: Work Day at Atwood Farm

    Project: chainsaw trees and limbs (Vern Beausoliel) as marked by stewards/committee members. Clear walls and sight lines near intersection. Participants from EO Smith Depot Campus.
    Please dress weather appropriately with long sleeves, long pants and hiking boots if possible.

    6:00 pm: Come see us at Third Thursday

    Come see us at the last Third Thursday of the season - find out where the Trust properties are and which have trails, play a game with your child, and learn how you can get involved.

    Project: Chainsaw and general maintenance of meadow at western side of Byles. Qualified chainsaw handlers and lopperwork by 10 or so UConn students.
    Please dress weather appropriately, with long pants, long sleeves and hiking shoes if possible.

    Join astronomers Paul Pribula and John Morey and find the constellations and planets you always knew were there but couldn’t locate. Kids welcome; no dogs, please. Please sign up at[email protected].

    1:00 pm: Stone wall secrets walk

    Robert Thorson leads an easy 1 mile walk through Whetten Woods in Mansfield, focusing on stone wall secrets and landscape history.  This walk is especially for children (please, no dogs), based on the book Stone Wall Secrets by Kristine and Robert Thorson. Meet at the entrance to the Mansfield Town Trail, 33 Sherwood Street in downtown Storrs. Dress for the weather. Parking is available in the Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center garage. Rain date is Oct. 28.

    10:30 am: Josias Byles Sanctuary walk

    Marian Mathews leads her popular walk at Byles Sanctuary on Route 44 in Ashford, discussing the natural history of the property and the human impact. Two miles, moderate difficulty. Rain cancels. No dogs or children under 5. Afterward, enjoy refreshments at the nearby Henrietta House, a historical B&B.?

    October 20 (rain date October 27), 8:30 a.m. and November 3 (rain date November 10), 8:30 a.m. Meet at Columbia Lake Beach parking lot where local birders Michael Curtis and Dave Parry will start the search. The group will then move on to other nearby locations. Bring binoculars. Kids over 5 welcome; no dogs please.

    Thirsty for cider as your great-grandparents drank it? Join us at the Atwood Farm on October 20, 2-4 p.m. when Lesley Sweeney and family work their cider press. Enjoy the cider while you visit this late 19th century farm – weaver’s cottage, barn, pig sty, smoke house, and more.
