Gift Land & Become a Partner in Conservation

Joshua’s Trust has been helping landowners protect their land for 60 years, and currently protects over 5,500 acres in Eastern Connecticut. 

 

Generous landowners who donate conservation easements to Joshua’s Land Trust are inspired by many things: they love Eastern Connecticut, they feel connected to their land, and they wish to leave a legacy of protected land for future generations. This inspiration is at the heart of our work to permanently protect valuable natural resources here in northeastern Connecticut.

Ways to Gift Land

Outright Land Donations

By donating land, you are leaving a legacy and ensuring that open space will be preserved forever. This option is good if you have land that you would like to give as a charitable donation to realize a tax benefit or offset capital gains.  

Conservation Easements

A conservation easement is a legal agreement that permanently restricts certain uses and activities on a piece of land. This option allows a landowner to ensure protection without giving up ownership. Each easement is individually tailored to the desires of the current landowner, but the restrictions apply to all future owners. In giving up maximum use of the land, you reduce the market value of the property. The difference between the full and the reduced value is the amount that may qualify for a significant tax deduction.
