Wednesday Walk at Whetten Woods
August 21 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
*Please note: We will be meeting at the Downtown Storrs Parking Garage at 33 Royce Circle. The GPS coordinates are 41.804425, -72.241757. Parking is free for 2 hours. We’ll have signs up to help you find us.
Join us for our first Wednesday Walk at Whetten Woods in Storrs Mansfield.
Whetten Woods is a thirty-seven acre preserve located near Downtown Storrs and the University of Connecticut. A trail from the parking garage takes you to a center loop trail.
The loop trail crosses a stream over several bridges. Stone walls, emphasizing the area’s agricultural heritage, cross the terrain. The trail passes stands of beech, oak, maple, ash and birch, and features two groves of hemlock, home to barred owls. The hike itself is under a mile but we’ll stop to take in the scenery. We have some exciting habitat restoration projects planned for this property and look forward to returning afterward to witness the progress.
The walk begins at 9:00 a.m. and will be cancelled in the event of rain. Bring water, bug spray or net, and appropriate hiking gear as needed.
We will post on Instagram and Facebook as well as this page if we decide to cancel the walk due to weather or other, unforeseeable circumstances.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call Michelle Poudrette, the Development and Communications Manager, at (860) 429-9023, or email michelle.poudrette@joshuastrust.org. Registration is not required.
We look forward to seeing you in Storrs Mansfield.
